Opening Studio for the first time

Studio isn’t signed by Apple yet. Esmero’s Apple Developer ID is still on its way, so the first time you open Studio’s installer, macOS stops it and asks you to allow it yourself. You do this once. From then on, Studio checks every update against Esmero’s own release keys before anything changes on your Mac.

Only allow Studio if you downloaded it from esmero.ai.

This Studio doesn’t yet keep copies of your Hub’s life; they come with a Studio update. Until then, if your Hub’s drive failed, what you’d done since pairing would be lost.

  1. Download. Safari may ask Do you want to allow downloads on “releases.esmero.ai”? Choose Allow. Studio.pkg arrives in your Downloads folder.
  2. Open the installer. macOS says “Studio.pkg” Not Opened, because Apple could not verify it. Choose Done. Its highlighted button is Move to Trash, so don’t press Return here.
  3. Allow it. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Beside “Studio.pkg” was blocked to protect your Mac., choose Open Anyway.
  4. Confirm. macOS asks once more: Open “Studio.pkg”? Choose Open Anyway. Here too the highlighted button is Move to Trash, so don’t press Return.
  5. Your password. macOS warns You are attempting to open an app that may cause harm to your Mac or compromise your privacy, then asks: Enter an administrator’s name and password to continue with Privacy & Security. Use the name and password you sign in to your Mac with, then choose OK.
  6. Install. The Studio installer opens. Choose Continue, then Install. Installer then asks for your password again: Enter your password to continue with “Installer”. Enter it and choose Install Software. When it says The installation was successful., choose Close. If it then asks Do you want to move the “Studio” Installer to the Trash?, either answer is fine.
  7. Open Studio. Studio is in Applications ▸ Esmero, and guides you from there.

Studio Base, the small part of Studio that protects it, keeps running in the background, so macOS tells you Software from “Esmero” can run in the background. It is listed in System Settings ▸ General ▸ Login Items & Extensions.

Studio’s writing field doesn’t yet offer Services, Writing Tools, Share, Start Speaking or the alternatives macOS suggests for a dictated word; they arrive later, with an update of Studio Base.
